NCCC has embarked on an exciting mission project to become a Strategy Coordinator Church with the IMB. After two successful GO (Global Outreach) trips to Costa Rica, Jack Orsinger, Durant Vick, and Pastor Jay Owens revisited Ciudad Quesada in the San Carlos canton of Costa Rica in August 2006 to meet with the home church that offered NCCC warm hospitality on our 2nd visit in April 2006. Along with Carroll Golden, an IMB missionary in Costa Rica, our trip was to review the progress of our April trip and to discuss our future role in assisting them in their church growth and to start the plans for a church planting movement in their area. On Saturday, September 16, Jack, Durant, and Pastor Jay will lead a church-wide session on NCCC’s plans and all are invited.
Given the magnitude of the overall plan to saturate the area with the Gospel of Christ, the IMB introduced the Strategy Church Planting model as a way to expand their efforts in spreading the Gospel. Jack Orsinger, Durant Vick, and Pastor Jay attended a 10-day training session in Leon Mexico in August 2006 to start the process for NCCC to become a Strategy Coordinator Church. As we assume this responsibility, NCCC will adopt a region of Costa Rica and it will be our full responsibility to establish a strategy to saturate that area with the Gospel and to create new churches.
We have selected the town of Ciudad Quesada in the San Carlos canton (like state) of Alajula (or province) of Costa Rica. It is located about 70 miles northwest of San Jose (capital of Costa Rica and is the location of the airport) and it's where we traveled on our 2nd GO trip. The town of Quesada has about 35,000 people and the canton, which extends to the Nicaraguan border, has 125,000. It is both mountainous and valleys with some similarity in appearance to the Roanoke Valley except very lush green given the amount of rain. Coffee plantations and sugar cane along with the bulk of Costa Rica’s cattle production are in the region. There are active volcanoes and rain forest in the area.
The strategy is Biblically based on how Paul visited areas, preached the Gospel, led people to the Lord, and instilled in them an evangelism outlook. We will be “trainers” to teach the local people (called Tico’s as they very often add “tico” to the endings of words) in calling on homes, seeking new leaders, starting Bible studies that will eventually lead to a church formation. Church building construction is not part of the plans as Home churches are the suggested method to bring people together. Once a Home church is established and souls are saved, out reach is encouraged immediately with the purpose of forming another Home church. The repetition has been very successful in many parts of the World.
